Food Security – a hamper to Progress? or progress?

The reports by the World Food Programme and the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation highlighted the high level of Malnutrition and hunger in India. The lack of availability of food in various pockets of the country ranks India in the 94th position globally. Probably, the Government has set its sights on setting things right through a proposed  Food Security Act. This proposal has serious economic consequences as it is being enacted during times of global food price inflation and developed countries like the US and the UK are having a close look at their Food Security Programs. The proposed enactment will be a boon for the poor and the destitute in our country.
